A growing body of research indicates that metabolic disorders, such as insulin resistance, may play an important role in the development of Alzheimer's disease. Although for decades it was considered a typical neurodegenerative disease, there is increasing evidence that metabolic processes - especially those related to the body's abnormal response to insulin - may influence the rate of brain ageing and the progression of dementia.
