According to the latest data, Alzheimer's disease affects around 400,000 people in Poland and 30 million people worldwide. The disease gradually takes away memory, impairs orientation and recognition of the environment, leads to lack of independence and great suffering for patients and their families. The drugs used so far were developed in the 1990s and have little efficacy. The disease starts insidiously with minor memory problems, but progresses, excluding the patient from family and social life, changing personality and everyday behaviour.
