Pneumococcal vaccine for all children?

medforum

Vaccinating your child

Children are very susceptible to various types of bacterial infections. The most common bacteria in children in the nursery, pre-school and early school years are pneumococci. They lead to upper respiratory tract infections but can also lead to invasive infections (sepsis, arthritis or pneumonia, meningitis). Pneumococcal vaccination is currently paid for but discussions are underway to reimburse this vaccine for all children.
