on 29 April, we will celebrate the 28th International Dance Day, established by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute. Each year, a prominent artist prepares a thought addressed to dancers and lovers of the discipline. In 2010, the author of the message to the world is Julio Bocca, a 43-year-old ballet dancer. He believes that dance is a universal language that replaces words that are so incomprehensible to most that it brings us closer to heaven and the sacred. He even compares dance to a love play, after which hearts beat faster and we can't wait for the next time.
Ballroom dancing itself is not only an opportunity for sport and artistic competition. According to various specialists, dancing has an excellent effect on physical fitness. Medical research also confirms the impact on mental condition - moving to the rhythm of music is an instinctive and natural reaction of the body, thanks to which we can forget about everyday problems, at least for a while.
According to many dancers, dance is like a drug - once you have tried it, you will never forget it and it will be hard to resist the temptation to try it again. But should one try at all costs to dance like the best couples who present themselves at tournaments? Of course not. After all, despite rigid and defined rules, the most important one is probably that ballroom dancing should bring joy and the possibility of artistic self-realisation.
