Bullous pemphigoid, or (Latin: Pemphogoid Bullosus), is classified as a chronic skin disease. It affects people around 65 years of age and rarely affects children. The disease is characterised by large, tense blisters visible on the skin, which are caused by the presence of autoantibodies in the patients' serum directed against basement membrane antigens.
