Keep your legs healthy

Contrary to appearances, the summer season is not good for the health of our legs. High temperatures dilate the blood vessels and impede the flow of blood towards the heart. The result is swelling. The heat also intensifies the feeling of heaviness in the legs. Unaesthetic spider veins often appear. In such a situation, we can reach for pharmacological agents, but it is worth trying to remedy the problems in other ways to begin with. Physical activity is the first step, as it improves blood circulation. All you need to do is walk for an hour during the day. You can walk to the shops for smaller purchases or take the dog for a walk. If you have to stand still for a long time, for example on a bus or sitting at your desk, you may start to feel unpleasant numbness in your legs. To prevent this, change the leg on which you are resting your weight or move your toes.Take several short breaks from work and walk to get a coffee. And in the evening, let's think about a relaxing bath of cool water, massaging our legs from the bottom up towards the heart. In this way, we 'kick-start' our legs - and they will repay us with better condition and no feeling of fatigue.

If these methods do not help, or the relief is only temporary, it is worth reaching for special preparations - which alleviate the symptoms and prevent their recurrence. Tired legs, swelling or spider veins are problems that affect many Polish women ," states Urszula Rogozinska, MD, PhD. - However, it can be combated. Pharmacies offer a variety of preparations for both oral and topical application in the form of gels. These preparations usually contain bilberry fruit extract, horse chestnut seed extract or escin, arnica, witch hazel extract or cooling menthol. For best results, the gel applied externally can be used simultaneously with a tablet preparation that protects from within. This is known as complementary therapy. If the swelling gets very bad, you should seek the advice of a phlebologist - a specialist in vein diseases. It is worth remembering that good hygiene and care of the legs will help us minimise the risk of unpleasant conditions.

Don't forget about your nails

To keep our nails looking nice, they need various ingredients and minerals. Mainly vitamins B and H, in addition to magnesium, iron, calcium and silicon. If the body is weakened, nails grow more slowly and break more often. Another problem is splitting nails, a problem that affects many women, and the causes are varied. A poor diet, low in vitamins and minerals, can contribute to this condition. In this case, special dietary supplements with keratin, vitamin E, calcium and horsetail can also be bought in pharmacies to improve the appearance of the nails. A healthy diet, especially one rich in vegetables and fish, will also help. You can also help yourself with home remedies, e.g. you can make a nail moisturising treatment, which consists in massaging olive oil into the nail plate, or you can prepare a small bath (a bowl filled with olive oil is heated, and then you immerse your hands in it for about 15 minutes - until the oil cools down). This will lubricate your nails and nourish them properly.
