Sometimes chronic diseases such as hypothyroidism are responsible for the poor appearance of nails. So if following a proper diet or appropriate preparations is not effective, you need to consult your doctor. It is worth remembering that a fungal infection also affects the nails. It may occur in the case of frequent and forceful cutting of cuticles or trauma to the nail. The infection may not be visible at first, but over time, discolourations appear on the nail plate, first white, then yellow and brown. The nail where the fungi have penetrated becomes brittle, is thicker and delaminates. The treatment of ringworm depends on the degree of infestation of the plate. If the mycosis is slight, it is sufficient to apply ointment, medicinal varnish or stick special patches. During more severe development of the disease, it is necessary to take pharmacological agents, even for a period of 12 months. Today, pulse therapy is also used in the treatment of ringworm, during which drugs are taken to reach the infected area. However, a change in nail colouration is not always caused by a fungal infection. In this case, we can get rid of the discolouration by rubbing lemon juice into the nail plate.

How do I look after my feet?

Your feet need care all year round. However, holiday time is a special time for our feet, when we use hotels, boarding houses, baths and swimming pools. We expose larger areas of the body, including the feet, which need proper rest and fresh air. Flip-flops, sandals and other holiday footwear are therefore highly recommended. It is also advisable to walk barefoot on grass or sand for good foot health.

A common problem for our feet is dry and cracked skin, which does not look good in summer sandals or subtle stilettos. How can this be remedied? Since heels tend to dry out, it's important to constantly moisturise and soften them. Start by preparing a simple but effective foot bath, for example in an infusion of herbs. Lavender, mint, sage and chamomile are ideal for this purpose. If the skin of your feet is very dry, use linseed; if inflammation has appeared, add an infusion of calendula or yarrow. The next step is to remove keratinised epidermis. It is best to use a metal scraper for the heels; pumice stone is more difficult to keep clean and bacteria develop more quickly. After bathing, do not forget to rub a cream into the dried feet, it can be an ointment with vitamin A and allantoin. This will give you beautifully manicured feet. Of course, these steps should be repeated several times.

Foot problems such as ringworm or diabetes can also cause cracked heels. Therefore, be careful at the swimming pool or in the shower in a guesthouse or hotel, where a fungal infection can make itself known. If you go to a swimming pool or a city swimming pool, take your flip-flops with you; bacteria like moisture, so dry your feet thoroughly after leaving the pool. Summer, especially this year, is the season when the rains do not leave us. Let's take care to dry the inside of our shoes well after a walk on rainy days. Foot protection is an extremely important issue for all our health. It should not be underestimated. The treatment of a fungal infection can be long and costly and, if left untreated, can spread to another area.
