The pharyngeal (third) tonsil is invisible to the naked eye. It is located behind the soft palate and the uvula backwards and upwards following the back wall of the throat. This organ is formed by lymphoid tissue comprising cells that eliminate microorganisms and also produce antibodies. The pharyngeal tonsil, together with the lateral (palatine) tonsils and other smaller communities of lymphoid tissue (including the tonsils of the trumpet, tongue) - builds up the body's protective barrier (the so-called pharyngeal lymph ring).
