Pedantism, according to doctors and researchers, has an emotional basis. In many cases it requires long-term treatment.
Everyone can be pedantic to a greater or lesser degree. It is nothing more than one of the manifestations of the personality trait perfectionism. At the root of paedantism are strong anxiety, restlessness, fearfulness and lack of self-confidence. If paedantism does not hinder our normal functioning in everyday life, we should not worry. The matter becomes more complicated when the pedantic approach to cleanliness of the flat, garden or excessive care for one's own personal hygiene starts to ruin one's life, hinders contacts with other people and the realisation of one's goals. We are talking about so-called extreme paedantism, which always requires specialised treatment (psychological therapy and pharmacological treatment).
